All About Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
What is search engine optimization?
Search engine optimization, or SEO for short, is the practice of increasing the quality and quantity of traffic that visits your website through organic search engine results. What does that mean in laymen’s terms? It means that when people search Google for your product, your website will actually appear in the results and customers will “organically” purchase your products or services.
What all goes into SEO?
To understand what SEO really is, let’s break it down into a couple of key components:
You can have 1 million people from all over the world visit your website, but if they are visiting because they searched for “free stuff” and your website is actually a non-profit trying to “free the people”, then obviously that the visitors contained in your traffic are not going to help your cause. Instead, we focus on attracting customers that are actually interested in purchasing what you have to offer. We’d rather target a keyword like “where to donate free the people” or “how to give money to free the people” instead.
Once the right folks are clicking on your links, the more the merrier! Delivering additional high quality traffic can boost your sales in a way that you might not even be prepared for.
SERPs, or search engine result pages, are often loaded with ads. Google Adwords, for example, allows businesses to purchase ads that place them at the very top of the Google search results. Organic traffic is traffic that you don’t have to pay for. That’s right – you will “naturally” appear as one of the top results, and those clicks are free, free, free!
